Netflix always seems to be in some kind of hot water; whether it’s rolling out new policies to prevent password sharing or making mincemeat of fan-favorite shows, the practices over at the streaming giant have been rightly scrutinized for what feels like years now.
And with the streamer now putting its best poacher impression forward by turning the fantasy genre into an endangered species, one has to start wondering just why Netflix has continued this bizarre campaign the way it has. Well, we might have an answer.
Indeed, Netflix wouldn’t haphazardly cancel so many shows if they didn’t plan on reallocating those funds, and given that their latest hire is none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger, who’s now serving as their Chief Action Officer no less, it looks like the mystery has been solved.
That’s a joke, of course; it isn’t Schwarzenegger’s fault that Lockwood & Co. has bitten the dust and we should continue to criticize Netflix either way, but you have to hand it to the streaming service; putting the face of some of history’s most beloved action films front and center to promote your newest and most imminent high-octane content is a pretty smart move.
Such content includes the upcoming Extraction 2, Lift, The Brothers Sun, and Heart of Stone, the now-playing The Mother and The Night Agent, the highly anticipated third season of The Witcher, and Schwarzenegger’s own forthcoming television series FUBAR, which Netflix might be a bit more hesitant to cancel given how nonchalantly the legendary film star rolled up to its headquarters in a tank.
FUBAR will release to Netflix on May 25.
