The Jamie Lee Curtis career arc pretty impressive. She played her way through the ’90s as a sex symbol and has now matured into an Oscar winning actress. There’s a good chance she’ll at least get an Emmy nom for her portrayal of Carm’s mother in The Bear. What high-profile gig does she want to do next? A Freaky Friday sequel, of course.
We previously reported that a sequel of the mom-daughter swap movie was in the works, complete with Lindsay Lohan returning. In an interview with CB with Tiffany Haddish to do press for The Haunted Mansion, Curtis revealed a little more of how she felt about the project.
“I think, you know, I’m 65 this year. I think Freaky Friday would be a nice little revisit. I have some other things I’m trying to do. I got to wind it down.”
News about the sequel first came out in May, so it sounds like things are humming along. In fact, Curtis might just be the reason the movie is coming out in the first place.
“As I went around the world with “Halloween Ends,” people wanted to know if there was going to be another “Freaky Friday.” Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, “It feels like there’s a movie to be made.”
The Freaky Friday story was originally a book a book by kids author Mary Rodger. It’s about a mom and daughter who switch bodies after they get into a big argument. The movie was well received when it came out and now has a cult classic status attached to it.
This might not even be the only reviving of an old property in the works, either. In the interview, Haddish said that “We’re working on getting her an EGOT. We got to get to the stage.”
“We’re gonna try to do a play,” Curtis responded. “We’re gonna try to do The Odd Couple on Broadway.”
Make it happen Hollywood! We’ll keep you posted.
