If you think about it, Michael Keaton is pretty much the godfather of superhero movies at this point. As the OG Batman from the iconic 1989 movie, he’s experienced it all and he’s seen it all. He recently used his vast knowledge of superhero experiences to give Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Will Poulter (Adam Warlock) some wild advice.

Puolter, appearing on the podcast Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, talked everything from his hopes for Adam Warlock in the future, to how he deals with his anxiety. Relatable! The real juice comes in around the 31 minute mark, where he gets to talkin’ Keaton advice.

Poulter worked with Keaton on the drama Dopesick, and Keaton was kind enough to give Poulter costume advice when he heard about Poulter playing Adam Warlock.

“It was really bizarre,” Poulter said, which is a fun way to start any sentence. “He was so encouraging and amazing to me while we were shooting Dopesick.” Wouldn’t it be more bizarre if he wasn’t? Poulter said Keaton found time to “be really wonderful to me,” despite shooting a very taxing and emotional film.

“I think we were in the green room before going onto a panel … and he was asking me questions about Guardians and he was giving me some advice about the suit. He was just like ‘be aware you’ll do all the working out and it’s this that and the other and then you’ll put the suit on and it might be a little bit different,’” Poulter said, barely containing a laugh.

Poulter said “it was really funny” getting to hear about the good ol’ days when Keaton was a young buck like Poulter is now during the filming of Batman. He said he had a great costume designer in Judianna Makovsky, who made sure the costumes were “wearable” and “flexible enough.”

He also praised his stunt double, saying that “whether I could tie my shoe or not” was irrelevant because his stunt double literally did all the heavy lifting.

As for the Batman costume, Keaton said all his working out worked against him because the costume was so tight. The Batman costume famously did not turn its head, so Keaton said he had to learn how to navigate that as well, but because he was so stiff in the tight costume, he pulled it off. He also probably had trouble pulling the costume off his body without someone’s help.

You can catch Poulter as Adam Warlock in Vol. 3 in theaters now.
