Ghostface has been terrifying fans since 1996 in the Scream film franchise, and the movies have solidified their face in the pop culture universe. Each look at the masked slasher’s road to vengeance sees a different set of characters trying to survive their rage, and the latest group of friends has carved out a special place in our hearts.
Speaking to Comicbook.com, Jasmin Savoy Brown says that she wants her character Mindy in the film’s third act, not just because she’s a big fan of the Scream franchise. Her character has recited a particular line more than once, and she’d like to reverse it.
“Well I would like to see Mindy in the third act. Selfishly, I just want to be around for that and, as she said at the end of [Scream VI], ‘Oh, I missed the monologue again?’ I would like to see her see the monologue. It would be interesting for her to have a phone call with Ghostface, for Ghostface to call her. I’m not sure what she would do with that, that could be really funny. Either of those, I would be happy with.”
That’s right, Brown wants Mindy to get to hear the monologue this time around — and is that really too much to ask? We think not — she’s a horror aficionado; she deserves her big movie moment.
Brown also opened up about another hard-hitting question involving the future of the “core four.” While they all made it out alive of both Scream (2022) and Scream VI, we can’t expect them to survive the wrath of Ghostface forever. Brown was asked if she thinks the next installment of the franchise will bring an end to one of the “core four” members. It’s something she doesn’t like thinking about — nor do fans of the films and the group who have experienced so much together, but it’s something she’s considered.
“Well, it would be devastating, which is why it’s going to happen at some point. That’s the way these franchises go. [David Arquette’s] Dewey passed, given, it wasn’t until five movies in, but he did. I think it’s inevitable, but I’m just so curious who it would be and how and why. It’s amazing Chad didn’t die, considering that man was basically gutted. Oh, my God, that was insane, I can’t get that image out of my head. I hope it’s not Mindy, I hope Mindy doesn’t go first.”
Fans were sure we were losing Chad at the end of Scream VI, and after Mindy’s violent attack, it was a breath of fresh air to see them alive at the end of our last fight with Ghostface, but any good horror fan knows that getting comfortable is the biggest mistake you could make. With a more vengeful evil every time, it won’t be long before we have to say goodbye to another fan-favorite character, and it’ll undoubtedly be an emotional one.
