In the modern age of technology, there are certain technological advancements that are quickly changing the world and leaving civilians absolutely dumbfounded. Of course, one of these advancements just so happens to relate to the concept of Deepfake — a method of synthetic media which digitally manipulates someone else’s appearance, voice, or personality. In the past, celebrities such as Morgan Freeman have been the subject of the method — although Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is now the latest victim caught in the trap.
Over on Twitter, financial advisor Meet Kevin shared a Tesla commercial which features Reynolds speaking about the car’s self-driving improvements and cost benefits. But it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that Reynolds is not actually in the commercial, and that a Deepfake of him is being used to promote Tesla’s cars. Given the horrid idea of the ad and how awful the actual design is, it certainly didn’t take long for fellow Twitter users to call out this tomfoolery. In that vein, many folks quickly insisted that they’ll be glad when Reynolds sues — because let’s face it, the beloved actor would never sign up to do an ad as atrocious as this one.
Honestly, just when it looked like there was no cooler accomplishment than portraying Deadpool, fate inadvertently stepped in and handed Reynolds one of the easiest lawsuits he’ll ever take action on. Until then, we can all sit back and watch with bated breath as Reynolds is already probably calling up his lawyers.
