Sadly, it looks like Hugh Jackman has found himself amidst yet another skin cancer scare. A massive supporter of health in all its forms, Jackman decided to disclose his recent struggles via Instagram.
Thankfully this isn’t Hugh Jackman’s first rodeo. The 54-year-old actor and entertainer has had skin cancer removed in the past, and continues to be an ardent supporter of sun protection.
As far as skin cancer goes, basal cell carcinomas — a type of cancer that directly impacts skin cell reproduction — are treatable and can be removed without much fuss, so things could be a lot worse. Still, Hugh Jackman’s bandaged appearance is certainly unsettling, and plenty of fans are worried sick.
Forget about Deadpool 3, we wan’t to make sure Hugh is going to be okay.
In his above posting, Jackman described the process by which his doctor biopsies his skin in search of answers, and when we all can expect to find out what the heck is going on.
“Hey guys, so, I wanted you to hear it from me, just in case someone sees me on the street or whatever. I’ve just had two biopsies done. I just went to my doctor… she just saw little things, could be or could not be basal cell in her opinion, she doesn’t know, I’ll find out in 2 or 3 days and as soon as I know, I’ll let you know.”
The Australian song and dance man goes on to mention how import it is to wear sunscreen and protect your skin during the summer months, all in an effort to prevent lasting damage. When it comes to something as preventable as skin cancer, everyone should be held accountable.
Author’s Note: As a healthy 25-year-old writer (the one responsible for the words you’re reading right now), I never thought that I could be at risk for skin cancer. That only happens to old people, right? I took care of my skin, wore sunscreen when I could, and never really burnt during the summer. Then, out of nowhere, I found myself having a small squamous cell carcinoma removed from the back of my neck. Skin cancer at its finest.
No warning, no nothing. Fear, uncertainly, and a whole lot of questions. It was super treatable, and there wasn’t much to my recovery. Even so, that certainly didn’t mitigate my surprise or (more importantly) my fear. All that is to say, please-please get your skin checked — take care and invest in your personal health. If you don’t want to listen to We Got This Covered, then listen to Hugh Jackman. After all, he’s the Wolverine.
