Everyone around the world has heard of the Harry Potter film series. When you think of the series, it is impossible to not think about the family that raises poor Harry, the Dursley family. One of the most memorable members of that family was Harry’s cousin, Dudley Dursley.
Harry Melling was cast in the role of Dudley, and he sure thrived in it. His performance is one of the most memorable in the movie series, especially considering he was not a main character or cast member. What is even more impressive is that this was his first acting role. He has grown as an actor and is now playing Edgar Allan Poe in the new movie Pale Blue Eye. What was Harry Melling cast in between his first role and his most recent role as one of history’s most iconic members?
What else has Harry Melling been in between Harry Potter and Pale Blue Eye?
While growing up, Harry Melling really focused on his role as Dudley Dursley, as he was only in an episode of a show called Merlin, four episodes of a show called Just William, and a television movie called Friends and Crocodiles. Harry was in a few other television shows in between, but really made a name for himself both in movies and also on the stage as a theater performer.
When it comes to theater, Harry was part of numerous productions. In 2011, he was part of the shows The School for Scandal and When Did You Last See My Mother? He kept it going by also starring in the bigger productions of The Hothouse and King Lear in 2013, and then Hand to God in 2016, while also appearing in many other on-stage productions.
Melling took a long break from movies after the final Harry Potter in 2010 he starred in but made his return in 2016 in the movie The Lost City of Z. In 2018, Melling was part of The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and The Keeper. Then 2020 was a big year for Melling, as he was part of three different movies, The Old Guard, Say Your Prayers, and The Devil of All Time, in which he played Steven Merrick, Tim, and Roy Laferty respectively.
Melling was only in one movie for 2021, but it was a big one as he played Malcolm in The Tragedy of Macbeth. This all culminated in a big 2022, as Melling was in Please Baby Please, and, most notably, Pale Blue Eye, in which he plays the famed writer Edgar Allan Poe.
The career arc of Harry Melling has been fascinating to follow, and will only continue to grow.
