It’s almost time to head back to Sherman Oaks High School with Devi, Paxton, and Ben for an epic senior year and the conclusion of the hit Netflix series, Never Have I Ever. After three seasons highlighting the ups and downs of friendships, romance, and the never-ending attempt to fit into an ever-changing world, it’s almost time to tell our favorite characters goodbye, but first — we’ve got another chapter to experience.
Ahead of the season four debut on Netflix on June 8, the cast of Never Have I Ever got together with Teen Vogue for a compliment battle, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Darren Barnet, and Jaren Lewison have as much chemistry off-camera as they do on set. So, the idea of them hurling sweet nothings at one another while trying to make their opponent laugh was a dream come true for fans.
The rules of the compliment battle were simple — break the person you’re reading the sweet words to at any cost, and for some, that was an easier feat than others. Reading tweets that fans of the series had posted about their co-stars, Ramakrishnan, Barnet, and Lewison pulled funny faces, used seductive voices, and even got theatrical to hit the point of these complimentary and somewhat thirsty tweets home.
“I don’t think I’ve fallen for a character so much; he is a piece of art… I would just like to spend 10 minutes with him and I would be happy for 10 years,” Ramakrishnan read to Barnet.
Not even cracking a smile, he simply replied with “thank you” before coming in hot with a response to Ramakrishnan. “You are shining some serious girl boss vibes and I love to see that,” he told her as he gave her quite the smolder.
As anyone would be, Ramakrishnan broke out in a sweet smile and laugh; her reaction was right on point. It was clear from the start that this is Barnet’s world, and we’re all just living in it — but anyone who’s ever watched an episode of Never Have I Ever already knows that.
Barnet also dished out some great compliments to Lewison, including this one that made him giggle like a schoolgirl.
“Ben is for sapiosexuals. To be honest I am really attacted to him cuz he is good in academics.”
The thing about a compliment battle is there is no way to ensure your opponent plays fair, so Ramakrishnan and Barnet team up on Lewison with the most epically played compliment of the entire video.
“I would do terrible things to this man. Love him so much,” Ramakrishnan leaned into Barnet, speaking about their co-star, and he couldn’t keep it together for anything. You can watch the entire compliment battle in the video above and get caught up with all things Never Have I Ever on Netflix now before the new season kicks off tomorrow.
