With her appearance in fan favorites like My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Holiday, What Happens in Vegas, and Charlie’s Angels, to name a few, Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz has solidified her position as the leading face of rom-com.
The 50-year-old actress didn’t confine her talents to her stellar performances, which earned her a swelling fan base over the years. She also created a positive impression amongst her fans as a result of her take on misogyny and fame in the Industry.
Commenting on how misogyny was omnipresent in the Industry during the 1990s and 2000s, she told Michelle Visage in ‘Rule Breakers’ podcast,
“I certainly didn’t do as much as could be done now because of the awareness of everybody, you know, sort of like the #MeToo. There were still parameters. In the 1990s, the early aughts, there was still heavy, heavy misogyny. Just the level of exploitation of powers it just laid on the entire industry. It was the normal thing to do sort of like (laugh) and just be able to get through unscathed.”
Speaking of fame to Visage, she added, “Fame is very infantilizing. It’s very much about keeping somebody coddled in a state.”
In 2018, Diaz officially announced that she was going to quit acting for good and focus on other aspects such as marriage and parenting, which meant that her last appearance was in the 2014 film, Annie.
The following year, The Holiday star married Benji Madden in 2015 and in 2019 the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Raddix.
Turns out that Miss Colleen Hannigan wasn’t her final appearance on screen as Diaz is all set to appear in Netflix’s Back in Action with co-star, Jamie Foxx. However, she also confirmed that this is her last film, after which she will leave acting for good.
One of the reasons she put forward is focusing on being a mom to her 3-year-old daughter, Raddix. “These back-to-back 10-hour workdays have been a lot on her, and she hates being away from Raddix,” an insider source told Daily Mail about how motherhood shaped the actress’ decision to leave acting for good.
Among other reasons, a source confirmed how the actress hates the ‘drama and confrontation’ that comes with starring in a movie. This is what happened on the set of her soon-to-be-released film, Back in Action, where her co-star Jamie Foxx got into a confrontation with the crew, leading him to fire the Executive Producer and the directors.
Foxx’s reported tantrums caused many to wonder if there were tensions between him and Diaz on the set. However, one of the sources assured that the duo is still on good terms and there have been no indications of tensions on the set.
Even though it is confirmed that Diaz is leaving her defining career for good, her films will always hold a significant position for fans.
