On this day, June 9, we celebrate some of the biggest celebrity birthdays of the entire year. Who would have thought that some of the greatest talent out there would be born on the same day? June 9 is also National Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie Day, Writer’s Rights Day, and Donald Duck Day (we’ll get to that). But we’re taking a moment to shoutout some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, across movies, TV shows, and more. We’re also in the midst of celebrating Pride Month, another key event of the month.
Let’s dive right in with the most prominent birthdays of today!
Johnny Depp turns 60
He’s had a rather hectic year, between the Amber Heard defamation trial, the paparazzi, and a lot of unwanted media attention, Johnny Depp is slowly rebuilding his life after his divorce. We know him as Captain Jack Sparrow most of all, but Depp has been in the acting business since 1984, landing his first ever feature film role in A Nightmare on Elm Street and going on to portray Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, Willy Wonka, and more. Today, he turns 60 years old.
Natalie Portman turns 42
Marvel fans know her as Jane Foster, Thor’s love interest, whereas old-school moviegoers will recognize her as Evey Hammond in V for Vendetta or Nina Sayers in Black Swan. She made her film debut as Mathilda in Léon: The Professional and even had stint as Padmé in Star Wars. Portman shares two children with her husband, French dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied, and she’ll soon be appearing in the upcoming TV series Lady in the Lake.
Michael J. Fox turns 62
After starring in one of the most famous movie ever made, you tend to gain some substantial stardom. Michael J. Fox is the oldest (human) birthday on the list at 62, beginning his acting career in 1978 with Midnight Madness. It wasn’t until 1985, where he starred as Marty McFly in Back to the Future that Fox earned the status of a household name. He returned for Part II and Part III, going down in history as one of the greatest science-fiction actors of the ’80s and ’90s. Fox is married to Tracy Pollan, whom he met on the set of Family Ties.
Mae Whitman turns 35
She voices Tinker Bell in the 2008 fantasy movie of the same name, stars in the teen comedy The DUFF, and brings Annie Marks to life in Good Girls. Whitman might be 35, but she’s still in the prime of her career, having made her film debut in When a Man Loves a Woman. She’s also known to children, particularly young girls, as the voice of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in the DC Super Hero Girls TV show and its associated properties. In the 2012 TV series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, she voices April O’Neil, the turtle’s human companion and tech wiz. Whitman is pansexual, which she revealed to Twitter in 2021.
Lucien Laviscount turns 31
British actor Lucien Laviscount is best known as Alfie in Emily in Paris, starring alongside the likes of Lily Collins, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, and Camille Razat. He’s recognized by horror fans as John in The Bye Bye Man and even made some appearances in various TV shows, such as Skins, Casualty, Supernatural, Scream Queens and more. He’s the youngest birthday on the list, turning 31 today.
Donald Duck turns 89
You never thought you’d ever see Donald Duck listed among the likes of Johnny Depp and Michael J. Fox, but here we are. Today is Donald Duck Day, and the Disney mascot and Mickey Mouse’s best friend turns 89 today, awaiting his 90th birthday next year. He first appeared in 1934 and has evolved considerable over the course of several decades, beginning as a more “realistic” looking duck before becoming the iconic Disney character he’s known and loved as. It’s been proven that Donald Duck is Disney’s second most famous character behind Mickey Mouse, so today is a momentous day for Donald.
