Universal Studios will be bringing Rupert Sanders’ Snow White and the Huntsman to Blu-Ray this fall, starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron.
Nothing is sacred from getting the eventual gritty reboot in the modern film age, which makes the tale of Snow White an obvious one at this point. Universal hired director Rupert Sanders to adapt the character for the big screen in a Lord of the Rings fashion, full of sci-fi fantasy and a female lead that guarantees the Twilight crowd would also be in attendance.
The film did respectable numbers at the box office, currently tracking at $381 million worldwide, with $153 million of that coming from stateside tickets. What is most interesting about the title isn’t its star-studded cast or half-cooked plot though, but the fact that Universal practically greenlit a sequel within weeks of the film coming out. That shows confidence in the project and it also shows that Universal is desperate to get another franchise off the ground, with the Fast and the Furious series already approaching its sixth installment and the Bourne series getting a reboot with Jeremy Renner.
Our very own Kristal Cooper had this to say about the film in her review:
Not quite the fairest in the land, but certainly fair enough to keep you enchanted by the sets, costumes and a delightful Chris Hemsworth.
The film will be coming to Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack with a 1080p video transfer and a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The following bonus content has been confirmed:
- Theatrical & Extended Cuts of the film
- Director’s Commentary
- Behind-the-scenes featurettes
Snow White and the Huntsman will be available to own on September 11th, 2012.
