Next year Paramount Home Entertainment will release Paranormal Activity 3 on Blu-Ray/DVD/UltraViolet Digital Copy combo pack including the original 83 minute theatrical cut and an all-new 93 minute unrated director’s cut. This latest entry was directed by Catfish directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman and it opened fairly well at the box office this past Halloween. Reception of the prequel was split down the middle with fans of the series complimenting the film for providing even more scares while others complained because of the formula approach and lack of original content.
The Paranormal Activity series is here to stay at least for another 2 or 3 movies by the looks of it. I think the series has found a core audience that loves the cheap thrills and they’ll keep coming back as long as Paramount keeps pumping out a new film every year. Eventually though, the series will lose its flame like Lionsgate’s Saw franchise and then something else will have to step out of the woodwork. I thought the first Paranormal film worked extremely well with its low budget indie horror vibe, but each sequel manages to be less scary and more oblivious.
Paranormal Activity 3 will come with a 1080p video transfer and a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. In addition to the two separate cuts of the film the disc will also come with the following bonus feature.
- Lost Tapes feature with footage not included in the theatrical and unrated cuts.
Paranormal Activity 3 hits shelves on January 24th, 2012.
