In what seems like a quick announcement, Paramount Home Entertainment has announced Martin Scorsese‘s first 3D film, Hugo, for Blu-Ray later this month. The film stars Asa Butterfield, Chloë Grace Moretz, Ray Winstone, Jude Law, Ben Kingsley and Sacha Baron Cohen.
The film opened modestly at the box office, but has been holding incredibly strong after several Golden Globe and Oscar nominations. It has been nominated for a total of 11 Academy Awards, including prestigious honors like best picture, best director and more.
Hugo deserves all of the praise it’s getting because it’s honestly the best live-action 3D film I’ve ever seen. Scorsese actually takes advantage of the added depth and uses it to enhance an already touching story about a boy who is struggling to find his purpose and ends up discovering the history of cinema and the meaning of happiness along the way.
Our very own Karen had this to say about Hugo in her review.
People of all races, ages, social classes and time periods often feel the loneliness that accompanies the death of someone close to them, especially a parent. This includes two of the main protagonists in Hugo, the title character and his new friend Isabelle. Through the incredible casting by Scorsese, his new family adventure film expertly shows the powerful effects that meaningful relationships have on people. Plus, the director’s impressive use of 3D proves the technology isn’t just a gimmick, and it can truly enhance the story-line and visuals of a movie.
Hugo will be coming to Blu-Ray in two packages: a Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack and a 3D Blu-Ray/2D Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. Both will come with a 1080p video transfer and a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. Here’s a confirmed list of special features.
