Magnolia Pictures has announced the Blu-Ray release of the horror anthology film V/H/S for Blu-Ray in December. The film was directed by Ti West, Adam Wingard, David Bruckner, Glenn McQuaid, Joe Swanberg and Radio Silence.
I absolutely love independent horror. Nothing excites me more than a newly released Ti West film, because he’s one of the best genre directors working in the field today.
Horror has taken an interesting turn as of late, relying more on the VOD crowd to help push a film through its limited theatrical run. Horror has also focused more on ghosts and POV-shot films in the current years, thanks to the Paranormal Activity push. V/H/S happens to be the result of both of these, opening with strong word from the VOD crowd and stirring up some fuss in the horror world with its ghostly tales.
V/H/S is an anthology film that puts together several short films directed by a mix of genre filmmakers and the result is a mixed bag, with most of the efforts coming up a bit short. I wanted to fall in love with V/H/S and to praise it non-stop, but I just couldn’t. None of the stories were all that connected, with most of them providing you with 15 minutes of unexplained horror that when viewed as its own right is passable, but still not all that impressive.
I liked bits and pieces of the film/films, but I also found myself struggling to care about any of the short films, which is a big shocker considering the wide variety of stories on hand. Our very own Amy Curtis liked it though and had this to say about it in her review:
Great scares and some interesting horror effects via film manipulation and camera work make this one worth a watch.
The film will be making its way to Blu-Ray with the following special features:
- Deleted Scenes
- Visual Effects
- Behind the Scenes
- AXS TV: A Look at V/H/S
- Trailers
You’ll be able to purchase V/H/S on December 4th, 2012.
