Fox will be releasing the comedy/drama Lola Versus on Blu-Ray this September. The film stars Greta Gerwig as a confused and slightly lost girl who gets dumped by her boyfriend just weeks before their wedding.
Greta Gerwig is hands down one of the best young actresses working in the field. She manages to spice up dull movies (see the Arthur remake) and she has a thing for making good movies even better (see her opposite of Ben Stiller in Greenberg). She’s said time and time again that she takes projects because she’s naturally interested in them and not because of the money, which is a rarity in Hollywood.
It pains me to say this, but Lola Versus just doesn’t add up as a film. It was her chance to shine as the star of the film, yet the direction by Daryl Wein takes the film absolutely nowhere and makes the character somewhat of a bore to follow.
Our very own Jonathan R. Lack sums up the film’s problems in his review:
Lola Versus has plenty of potential, but with a script that has absolutely no handle on its lead character, the experience quickly becomes unbearably frustrating.
The film will be coming to Blu-Ray with a 1080p video transfer and a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. Fox has confirmed the following bonus content:
- Outtakes
- Commentary with filmmakers Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones
- Theatrical trailer
- Deleted scenes and alternate ending
- 4 Behind-the-scenes featurettes
Lola VersusĀ will hit stores on September 11th, 2012.
