Fox is bringing director Cameron Crowe‘s We Bought a Zoo to Blu-Ray in April. The family drama stars Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Elle Fanning and Thomas Haden Church.
The film didn’t really do too much this past holiday season, barely clicking with audiences or critics. I think most people are just tired of seeing Cameron Crowe skid by making these kinds of good, but mostly below average family dramas.
The film never figures out if it’s trying to be a serious drama or a silly and cheap little family comedy. I disliked its constant shift in tone and it made me lose focus extremely fast. I give credit to Matt Damon for giving another high-quality performance, but it was mostly wasted on a film that no one really cared about.
Our own Kristal Cooper had this to say about We Bought a Zoo in her review.
In short, We Bought a Zoo is all bore and no roar, and while it’s certainly not the worst of Crowe’s career (that honour goes to either Elizabethtown or Vanilla Sky), it’s far from earning its stripes as a worthy successor to his earlier films.
The film will come to home video in the form of a Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack. It will be presented in 1080p with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. The following special features have been confirmed.
- Commentary with Cameron Crowe, co-star JB Smoove, and editor Mark Livolsi
- Three behind-the-scenes featurettes (The Real Mee, We Shot a Zoo, Their Happy is Too Loud)
- 20 Deleted/extended scenes
- Gag reel
We Bought a Zoo will be available to own on April 3rd, 2012.
