The following article contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.
After an award-winning first season and a very well-received film (including from our reviewer), everyone’s eager to find out when we can get another look at this world. Based on the manga by Gege Akutami, Jujutsu Kaisen is set in a world where everyone releases “Cursed Energy,” which eventually comes together to form “Curses” — oft-monstrous beings that generally have a hatred of humanity. Particular people have been trained to harness this energy to create powerful “Cursed Techniques,” many of which have incredible destructive potential.
In the main manga and anime, we focus on the story of Yuti Itadori (voiced by Junya Enoki in Japan, and Adam McArthur in the English dub), a high schooler who gets possessed by a powerful Curse which gives him tremendous power, but also risks consuming him if he loses control. On that note, here’s everything you need to know to move forward into the second season ahead.
Where did Season 1 leave us?
Before we get to worrying about season 2, here’s a quick refresh on how the first season ended. After a tense finale where Yuji and Nobara just about survive the onslaught from two Cursed Womb brothers, the third of them is still at large. Also, Itadori has consumed another one of Sukuna’s fingers, making the young sorcerer more powerful but also increasing the threat of him losing control of the Demon King. Our main crew has also all been recommended to be upgraded to Grade 1 sorcerers.
When does Season 2 come out?
Now that we’re all caught up, let’s answer the all-important question of when we can see the JJK crew again. It was confirmed last year that season 2 would release sometime in 2023, and in September of 2022 the JJK team announced the season would release as two courses, or 12-episode halves. As for when the anime will finally grace the screens again, it will be already on July 6, 2023, when fans all over Japan will find the chaotic world of Jujutsu sorcerers once more.
As for us international fans, we may be watching the episode a tad bit later than expected. If Crunchyroll’s pattern with releases persists, as it did with Attack on Titan in the past, the Jujutsu Kaisen episodes will likely reach the platform at least a day after their Japanese release, allowing the birth country to fully digest this action-filled impending season.
What can we expect Season 2 to cover?
While we don’t know how much season 2 will adapt, we can look to the original manga to imagine the direction the series will be moving in. Likely covering the Shibuya Incident Arc, where Geto Suguru will return as the primary antagonist, season 2 will understandably be split into two halves, considering this convoluted manga arc. Moreover, the trailer that was released just two months ago highlights Gojo and Goto, leaders of each side of the conflict. Their past friendship was explored in JJK0, which may point to what MAPPA has in store for us this season.
