Castlevania fans were a little disheartened to learn that their favorite anime adaptation would come to a close with only four seasons. Though the story of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades concluded in 2021, Netflix has just announced that a new series, titled Castlevania: Nocturne, is in the works.
The streaming juggernaut has also given us a first look at the story’s main character, Richter Belmont. Canonically speaking, Richter is a descendant of Simon Belmont, who himself is a descendent of Trevor. But since the Netflix timeline has taken certain freedoms before, Richter might end up being a completely different character in relation to his video game counterpart.
The first season of Castlevania revolved around the story of Vlad Tepes, otherwise known as Dracula, who went on a rampage after humans captured and burned her wife at the stake as a witch. Season 2 brought his son Alucard to the fore, who allied with Trevor and Sypha to kill his father. The next two seasons, meanwhile, dealt with the aftermath of Dracula’s death in the world. After sabotaging several sinister plans to resurrect Dracula, the trio retire in the new village of Belmont to welcome a new dawn.
Now, this new narrative seems to pick up the story many years after the events of the original series. Netflix has revealed that Nocturne will take place during the French Revolution, with executive producer Kevin Kolde once again returning to helm the series, joined by screenwriter Clive Bradley.
As of now, no release date has been announced for Castlevania: Nocturne.
