Japan’s strongest anime character rankings are causing chaos among weebs

A debate that will likely never end is ‘if X character got in a fight with Y, who would win?’ Since the advent of manga and comic books, there’s been many a heated discussion both in comic book stores and on the internet on such matters – and any soul brave enough to try and offer up a definitive ranking of the strength of all of the world’s most popular anime characters is sure to end up getting flamed.

However, sure enough, AnimeSenpai gave it a crack anyway – coming up with their list and sharing it to Twitter, with One Punch Man’s Saitama crowned as the most powerful of them all. As expected, things kicked off quite quickly in response. Here’s the publication’s top ten:

There was a lot of contention about the ranking. With Dragon Ball in its various iterations being one of the most popular animes in the west, Goku supporters were naturally crawling out of the woodworks to leap to the defense of everyone’s favorite Saiyan, as well as questioning the position of Zeno Sama:

Another particularly contentious appearance in the top ten was Attack on Titan’s Captain Levi Ackermann. While the famed de facto leader of the Scout Regiment is very much a badass in his own right, the popular opinion seems to be that he doesn’t hold a candle to some of the other characters he stands shoulder-to-shoulder with in the upper echelon:

Then there was the issue of One Piece’s Luffy – who didn’t even manage to crack the top ten. You’ll bet folks were making themselves heard:
