Deadline is reporting that Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg could be teaming up for a new film for Universal. Titled 2 Guns, this would be Washington’s second action flick in a row for the studio with Safe House (opening this week), being the first. Wahlberg would be making it two in a row as well as he starred in Contraband for the studio back in January.
Baltasar Kormakur, director of Contraband, will be helming the project from a script by Blake Masters. Plot details are thin but the film is said to revolve around a “DEA agent and an undercover naval intelligence officer who unwittingly investigate each other as each steals mob money.”
For me, the most exciting thing about the film is seeing Washington heading back to badass town. He’s always at his best when playing a bad guy (Training Day, American Gangster) and this is a role that seems well suited for him. Plus, seeing him go head to head with Wahlberg could be pretty exciting as well.
Though nothing is confirmed as of yet, it’s very likely that this will all come together.
We’ll keep you posted on more news as we get it.
