I’ve yet to actually see the film in its entirety, but I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it. Most call it Polanski’s best film and one of Nicholson’s best performances, so it’s kind of hard not getting excited for this release.

Paramount usually does a great job when it comes to releasing classics for the first time on Blu-Ray. They rarely drop the ball on video transfers, oftentimes offering near-perfect restorations with just the right amount of natural film grain and not too much DNR (if any).

Chinatown will come with a 1080p video transfer as well as 5.1 Dolby TrueHD track and a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD mono track. Here’s a list of the confirmed special features.

  • Commentary with Robert Towne and David Fincher
  • Three-part Water and Power documentary with Robert Towne (The Aqueduct, The Aftermath, The River & Beyond)
  • Chinatown: An Appreciation retrospective with filmmakers Steven Soderbergh, James Newton Howard, Kimberly Peirce and Roger Deakins
  • Three behind-the-scenes featurettes (Chinatown: The Beginning and the End, Chinatown: Filming, Chinatown: Legacy)
  • Theatrical Trailer

Chinatown will hit Blu-Ray shelves on April 3rd, 2012.
