It was bound to happen. If you haven’t seen the Dexter season 6 finale yet, stop reading right now. Many spoilers follow.
“Oh, God,” are Dexter’s final words for the season. They’re mine as well. Even though I knew that the writers would eventually weave in the plot line of Debra finding out her brother is a serial killer, it still caught me by surprise. I’m still trying to figure out my feelings for the episode.
There really is no for sure conclusion to a lot of the subplots that came about in this season. Quinn is told by Angel that due to his recent antics, he’s getting a transfer. Quinn is upset and was hoping that everything was settled between him and Angel. Everything is, yes, but that doesn’t stop Angel from thinking Quinn can do much worse than what has already happened.
Quinn argues that his antics are caused by a disease he might have, and if he does actually have it, then he can’t be transferred. But it’s never explained if Quinn is lying or speaking the truth. He could be lying, and the writers have finally answered our prayers by getting rid of him after being worthless this season. But he could be telling the truth as well.
In other news, Debra and Dexter both tell each other “I love you” after Dexter returns from almost drowning in the middle of the ocean. This leads Debra to think their relationship might go further than being brother and sister. And after the final seconds, I’m a little curious about that as well. Yes, she now knows her brother is a serial killer but does that mean she wants to get intimately closer to him still? Probably not.
Elsewhere, it’s uncertain if Louis, Masuka’s intern, will return next season. They kind of hint that his internship is almost up but his is storyline really finished? In this episode, we see Travis has the hand of the Ice Truck Killer, which was previously in the possession of Louis and before him, it was Ryan, the other intern. There could be a plot line in season 7 that connects both Ryan and Louis to Travis, but we won’t know until next year.
Overall, the sixth season of Dexter had too many far-fetched situations and more or less jumped the shark. It had its moments but it was still lacking in way too many areas. Can they recover for season 7? Let’s hope so.
