Comedy Central’s South Park, the longest running cable cartoon series of all time, has been extended for three more seasons through 2016, bringing the show to its twentieth season.
South Park will continue to be produced, written by, and starring co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who created the series in 1997.
It’s no surprise that South Park was given a renewal, considering how popular it remains despite a recurring formula, and Parker and Stone’s enormous success this year on Broadway with Book of Mormon.
Michele Ganeless, president of Comedy Central, had this to say concerning the renewal:
Week after week and season after season they continue to surprise and delight South Park fans, and that includes all of us here at Comedy Central. We’re thrilled that the adventures of Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman will continue through 2016.
