After Steve McQueen’s fantastic first two films (Shame and Hunger), it’s no surprise that stars are lining up to work with him. Today it was announced that Brad Pitt has signed on to star in the director’s upcoming film 12 Years A Slave.

Pitt’s production company Plan B are already producing the film, which is looking to start principle photography in January.

12 Years A Slave, which has been penned by McQueen and John Ridley, will also reunite McQueen with his golden boy and star of his past two films, Hunger and Shame, Michael Fassbender.

The movie will tell the true story of Solomon Northup, “a free black man who was kidnapped in 1841 and sent to a slave plantation in Louisiana, which he was rescued from in 1853.”

Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Solomon Northup and while there is no word on who Fassbender and Pitt will play, we can presume it will be the roles of Merrill Brown and Abram Hamilton, who were the two men who freed Northup.

12 Years A Slave is expected to be in cinemas in late 2012.
