Today, the footage that had fans swirling out of D23 this past weekend was finally released online. And with it, we got a nice homage to all the films inside the Star Wars franchise, but also a hint at what The Rise of Skywalker may bring to the table this December.
And apparently, it’s a duel, RED lightsaber-wielding Rey.
You heard that correctly, folks. In the final seconds of the film’s latest trailer, we see Daisy Ridley’s heroic character trade in her white robes for black ones, and her blue weapon for that aforementioned red beast.
The Star Wars series has always been a source of great debate and speculation, and with this quick reveal, The Rise of Skywalker has proven it won’t be the exception. All morning, fans have been pouring their excitement and theories onto the social medias waves. And you can check some of the Tweets out for yourself down below.

J.J. Abrams really decided to go way out there and give the people the Sith!Rey/Padme fusion they deserved. #TheRiseofSkywalker #RevengeoftheSith pic.twitter.com/DChkddXSIY

#TheRiseOfSkywalker ends with Rey turning to the Dark Side and killing all the younglings because this isn't a remake of the OG trilogy. Its a remake of the Prequels, bitches! pic.twitter.com/auFcGblgzm

This will be the greatest Star Wars film ever made and the best 2019 has to offer. Can't. Freakin. Wait. #TheRiseOfSkywalker pic.twitter.com/jpxVFEE2u8

While this radical change is certainly a surprise to fans, it may be too much of a surprise. Many are hypothesizing that Rey won’t actually be turning evil in the next film, but rather, that this short sequence is ripped out of a vision scene in the movie.
I don't care if "Dark Rey" is a vision, genuine outcome, or a damn clone. I ONLY CARE about getting a TOY version of her (and a replica of that fucking saber)! #StarWars #TheRiseOfSkywalker pic.twitter.com/zcKlnyh0Nk

I know they gonna smash this outta the park. I loved TFA and TLJ even more, but that TROS trailer is incredible. I can't wait for December and although it's most likely a vision Dark Rey can slice me. #TheRiseofSkywalker pic.twitter.com/ngFoorhx15

who is this??? no damn way in hell this is actually Rey. either a vision or a dream. Can't wait #TheRiseOfSkywalker pic.twitter.com/ZdoKjGiUlm

Well Rey is either a clone or that’s a vision. Rian Johnson would have it that she turned and killed Leia. JJ will do his best to pay respect to the originals. So will the new Obi Wan series. #TheLastJedi was such a wasted movie just to please GOT fans. #TheRiseOfSkywalker

Of course, we won’t know whether any of this is true until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres on December 20th. But given how many people are debating on Twitter, why not do it here as well?
Tell us, what do you think of Rey’s new garb? Is this heroic figure of the latest trilogy actually turning to the Dark Side? Or is this nothing more than one of the series’ misleading teases? Be sure to state your case in the comments section down below.
