Avengers: Endgame gave Chris Evans the perfect exit stage left out of the MCU. But a new rumor has began to circulate that suggests the famed actor could very well find himself another place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to TVO from the Lords of the Long Box, Marvel’s been tossing the around the idea to bring Evans back to star in an original Human Torch television series. If this were to be the case, he wouldn’t be reprising his role from the Tim Story-directed Fantastic Four film. Instead, he’d be playing Jim Hammond, who began his existence as an android in Professor Phineas T. Horton’s laboratory.
What’s interesting to note is that the Hammond character’s first appearance dates back over 20 years before Johnny Storm’s, who’s been portrayed in both Fantasic Four film casts – first by Evans, and then again by Michael B. Jordan in 2015.
Again, while it does sound intriguing, this is nothing more than a rumor – one that, in light of Endgame‘s many successes, will probably never see the light of day. As anyone who’s seen the galactic epic already knows, Captain America, who Evans started playing six years after Johnny Storm, was given a pitch-perfect ending: a second chance to live his life alongside Peggy Carter. So to bring the actor back in another role, despite his interest, would more or less taint the legacy of the character he’s already solidified.
But that’s just one man’s opinion. What do you think? Would you want to see Chris Evans return as this version of the Human Torch? Or do you believe his time as the Cap was enough, and as Steve Rogers passed on his shield, Evans should, too? Be sure to drop us a comment down below and share your thoughts.
