Variety is reporting that Academy Award nominated actress Carey Mulligan has been cast as the female lead in Joel and Ethan Coen’s Inside Llewyn Davis and Spike Jonze’s Untitled Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze Project.

Mulligan will star opposite her Drive co star Oscar Isaac in Inside Llewyn Davis, which chronicles Davis, a fictitious character based on Dave van Ronk and his “struggles as a folk musician during the genre’s 1960s heyday in New York City.”

It is unknown if Mulligan will be singing in the film, but it is a possibility after her vocals were put to use in Steve McQueen’s Shame. However, little else is know about Mulligan’s character. As for a start date, Inside Llewyn Davis is scheduled to begin shooting in January for a late 2012 release.

As for the Untitled Charlie Kaufman and Spike Jonze Project, it is being described as:

“A political parody that centers on world leaders who converge to understand all the important events that affect the planet, from the price of oil to war.”

Kaufman and Jonze have done some fantastic projects in the past, like Being John Malkovich, and I’m sure this one will be no different. The film is gearing up to shoot in the Spring, presumably right after Mulligan wraps Inside Llewyn Davis, and it will likely hit cinemas in mid 2013.

Mulligan is currently filming Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby in Sydney, Australia, were she is playing Daisy Buchanan opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.

Carey Mulligan can next be seen in cinemas in Shame, which has a limited release on December 2nd.
