Today, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company dropped a whole lot of information about the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield. Along with a brand new critter, Morpeko, and region variant versions of old favorites, like Zigzagoon and Weezing, we learned that your Pokémon will be doing a lot more than just battling.
In a lengthy Twitter thread, it was revealed that the creatures will be able to partake in various jobs in the Galar region. “There are all kinds of Poké Jobs available, and you’ll find that certain Pokémon types are suited for specific jobs, too,” reads one of the Tweets.
To take on a job, you’ll first need to head over to a Pokémon center and talk to one of the Rotomis. Like with the Pokedex in Sun and Moon, Rotomis are computers that have been taken over by the electric type, Rotom. “You can accept jobs from the Rotomi you can find in every Pokémon Center around the Galar region,” reads another tweet. “Rotomi have many different features aside from Poké Jobs, too—you can access your Boxes or even have a go at the Loto-ID!”
It would seem that the Pokémon Box, introduced in last year’s Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, will not be returning in this installment and you’ll have to go to Pokémon Centers to swap out your ‘Mons. As of this writing, The Pokémon Company has yet to name any of the jobs that your Pokémon will be partaking in, but the whole thing feels similar to the Poké Pelago that was introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon.
While past games have already shown Pokémon partaking in everyday jobs, like having Machoke help with moving, this will be the first time in the series that employment will be presented as an actual game mechanic, and we can’t wait to see just what jobs will be available when Pokémon Sword and Shield hit store shelves on November 15th.
