Yesterday, the folks over at FandomWire reported that Cress Williams would be crossing over to the Arrowverse as Black Lightning for the first time ever in this year’s massive “Crisis on Infinite Earths” event. And today, the news has been officially confirmed by Williams himself.
The actor shared a screenshot of We Got This Covered’s own coverage of the story on his Instagram page, writing in his caption: “You asked for it…you got it!!! #blacklightning #crisisoninfiniteearths #getlit.”
As fans will know, Black Lightning‘s clocked up two seasons now, but despite being a DC series that airs on The CW, it hasn’t been officially declared part of the Arrowverse before. Due to the producers wanting the show to stand on its two feet, no crossovers have been attempted so far. However, Williams has previously stated that he would welcome an Arrowverse team-up at some point and now, it seems that point has come.
This is exciting news, as Black Lightning can now be added to the many DC characters who will be showing up for the incoming Crisis. Notably, Brandon Routh will suit up as Superman again for the first time since 2006’s Superman Returns, as will Tyler Hoechlin after last being seen as the Man of Steel in 2018. Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane and Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor will also appear. Plus, Burt Ward is likely to reprise his role as Dick Grayson from Batman ’66.
It’s possible that other major multimedia DC crossovers will be pulled off as well, including cameos from Smallville‘s Tom Welling and 70s Wonder Woman Lynda Carter. Maybe even, and this would be the real coup, some sort of tie-in with the DCEU. In any case, it seems that the network is about to pull out all the stops to make sure that “Crisis On Infinite Earths” is the crossover to end all crossovers.
