One of the elements that fans look forward to the most with each new Avengers film is seeing characters from different corners of the MCU meet and interact, and so far, the series has debuted a countless array of popular pair-ups, from Iron Man and Captain America, to Thor and Rocket.
That being said, given how many heroes have occupied the Marvel universe in these past eleven years, it was inevitable that some character combinations would go untried. Producer Trinh Tran provided her own example during the recent Vudu Viewing Party of Avengers: Endgame. When a fan asked via Twitter which characters she would’ve liked to have seen interact, the longtime Kevin Feige collaborator offered the following response:
“I would’ve love to see Tony and Shuri get together because I think they could’ve created something brilliant.”
Indeed, most of us would agree that there was potential for real chemistry between these two brainy, tech-savvy fan favorites, but sadly, we’ve yet to see the pair interact, and chances are, we never will.
To a large extent, you could argue that the timing simply wasn’t right for Iron Man and Shuri to cross paths. After all, Shuri only just made her MCU debut in last year’s Black Panther. Since then, the character has appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, in which Stark’s trip to space ensured that he stayed well away from Wakanda, and while Shuri also showed up for the climax of Endgame, the film’s final battle was so packed with characters that it’s no surprise she never found the time to talk to Tony.
In any case, though Iron Man has now passed away, we can expect to see T’Challa’s sister once more in the upcoming Black Panther 2. In the meantime, Marvel’s Phase 4 finally gets going with the release of Black Widow on May 1st, 2020.
