The past few months have been busy when it comes to superhero movies. While Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home won’t be forgotten anytime soon, there’s still one flick to look forward to, though it might be more accurate to refer to it as a supervillain film. Believe it or not, but Warner Bros.’ standalone Joker will be hitting the big screen in just a couple of months, and fans can’t wait to see a movie that focuses on the Clown Prince of Crime himself, as opposed to the Caped Crusader, who usually takes center stage.
Still, while Todd Phillips’ latest effort has largely been kept under wraps, plenty of plot leaks and unconfirmed spoilers have made their way to the internet. A while back, we caught wind of a handful of juicy story beats, which suggest that Arthur Fleck/Joker (Joaquin Phoenix) will start a revolution pitting the poor against the rich, all set in a less pristine version of Gotham City during the early ’80s. It also seems a few industry insiders already had the chance to watch Joker for themselves, and the initial reactions have been largely positive.
In fact, an unnamed source (speaking to Awards Ace editor Erick Webber) has already seen the movie and says that Joaquin Phoenix “will be nominated” for an Academy Award. He also referred to the actor’s performance as “dark, disturbing & unforgettable.” This claim seems to match up with an earlier one from Jean-François Allaire of Splash Report as well, who also wrote that he’d expect Phoenix to nab an Oscar nom.
While these recent reports should be taken with a grain of salt – after all, any mention of Academy Award nods are pure speculation – we personally can’t wait to see Joker for ourselves when it lands in theaters on October 4th. Given his performances in films such as Walk the Line and Her, we certainly have high hopes for Joaquin Phoenix.
