Halloween Sequels To Begin Filming This September

You just can't keep Michael Myers down. Despite being incinerated underneath Laurie Strode's house in last year's Halloween, the unstoppably brutal killer will be back in both 2020 and 2021 for Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. The double-bill was announced last week, with director David Gordon Green and writer Danny McBride returning, along with Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode. They're set to be released in October 2020 and 2021, but we now have confirmation that they'll be filmed back-to-back this September:

Despite being incinerated underneath Laurie Strode’s house in last year’s Halloweenthe unstoppably brutal killer will be back in both 2020 and 2021 for Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. The double-bill was announced last week, with director David Gordon Green and writer Danny McBride returning, along with Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie. They’re set to be released in October 2020 and 2021, respectively, but we now have confirmation that they’ll be filmed back-to-back this September.

Chatting with Collider recently, Green said the following:

“We start in September [and shoot them back-to-back] with a breather between. But they’ll be out in two consecutive years, in 2020 and 2021. You get a breather this year, and then, for the next two years, it’s gonna be crazy.”

Honestly, I can’t wait. I had high hopes for 2018’s Halloween and the film more than met them. I thought Curtis’ performance was fantastic, especially when she demonstrated how much she’d learned over the years by fooling Michael at his own game. Similarly, the score by John Carpenter was absolutely incredible, with the track “The Shape Hunts Allyson” having one of the most intense synth sounds I’ve ever heard in a movie. Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but Green and McBride got so much right about the franchise that I’m sure these are going to be worthy sequels.

With September now not too far away, we’ll likely see some set pictures from the films fairly shortly. Let’s just hope that, as we did with set snaps of Halloween, we can get an idea of the basic direction of the movies. Given that Green and McBride have said they always planned to do a trilogy to fully tell Laurie and Michael’s struggle all these years later, I’m really curious as to whether Halloween Ends can finally, properly kill off Michael Myers. Somehow I doubt it.
