HBO Announces Game Of Thrones: The Complete Collection On Blu-Ray

Assuming the final season didn't sour you on the show as a whole, you might want to consider checking out this Game of Thrones box set.

The last month has been filled with highs and lows for Game of Thrones fans. Back in May, the series finale for HBO’s fantasy drama was released, and while some were satisfied with how creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss wrapped things up, plenty of longtime viewers were left disappointed with how the ending panned out. In a show which featured dozens of characters and plotlines, it’s not entirely surprising how some long-hanging stories didn’t get the conclusions they deserve, but that realization doesn’t make the sting any more palatable.

A few staff writers here at We Got This Covered felt that the final season left a dark mark on the franchise as a whole, and chances are, you probably have a couple of friends of your own who feel the same way. Still, it seems like HBO hasn’t given up on Game of Thrones just yet. Not only has filming begun on a new prequel series, but the entertainment giant recently announced a limited edition box set, which is sure to pique the interest of those who weren’t completely soured by last month’s final few episodes.

As reported by ComicBookMovie.com, this custom-designed complete collection bundles all 73 episodes into one handy package, with over 15 hours of bonus content, including an exclusive, never-before-seen reunion hosted by Conan O’Brien. Unlike the recently-announced Avengers steelbook collection, this particular box set won’t be retailer exclusive. It’s already available for pre-order at Best Buy, Amazon, and Wal-Mart, and it’ll set back prospective buyers a whopping $249.95.

Here are the full details of what comes included:

Rally the realm on December 3rd as HBO is releasing all eight epic seasons of one of the most talked about programs in TV history with Game of Thrones®: The Complete Collection, an ultra-premium, limited-edition Blu-ray™ set. This must-have collectible exclusively features Game of Thrones: Reunion Special, a two-part reunion show with cast members from the final season including Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner and more, as well as previously departed fan-favorites like Sean Bean, Jason Momoa, Mark Addy and others. Hosted by Emmy®-award winning host Conan O’Brien, the reunion was shot in front of a live audience in Belfast and includes segments of footage from both the show and behind-the-scenes, highlighting a variety of topics that are sure to captivate fans.

Additional bonus content includes all-new deleted and extended scenes, animated histories and lore pieces, fascinating behind-the-scene featurettes, audio commentaries and the documentary featured on DVD in two parts, Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, by filmmaker Jeanie Finlay.

Game of Thrones®: The Complete Collection is packaged in a visually stunning wooden shadow box case, featuring beautiful, multi-layered panel designs by Robert Ball (the artist behind the “Beautiful Death” series) that summarize the Game of Thrones story. Each season is represented by a different layer, showcasing iconic characters and memorable moments from the show, all clambering toward the Iron Throne. The set also contains a “Hand of the King” pin clasp, which holds all nine custom plated disc sleeves.

Interestingly, it looks the show’s eighth season will be available on 4K UHD Blu-Ray, presumably because the final block of episodes was produced with higher resolution cameras. For over 75 hours of content, the Game of Thrones complete collection doesn’t sound like a bad deal, as each season would average out to a little more than $30 apiece.

Of course, the value prospect is going to depend on whether you’re keen on rewatching the series, warts an all. Personally, I’m not sure if I can stomach the final few episodes again.
