Former Bond Director Says Robert Pattinson Should Be The Next James Bond

Although everyone and their mother has an opinion regarding who should play the next James Bond, let's be honest in saying we still have some time to go before the torch is passed. And while I'm sure the producers behind the enduring film franchise are having their own talks behind closed doors, nothing's going to happen until some time has gone by following Daniel Craig's final contribution to the series.

Although everyone and their mother has an opinion regarding who should play the next James Bond, let’s be honest in saying we still have some time to go before the torch is passed. And while I’m sure the producers behind the enduring film franchise are having their own talks behind closed doors, nothing’s going to happen until some time has gone by following Daniel Craig’s final contribution to the series.

Speaking of which, one person who’s already weighing in on the situation is that of Danny Boyle. Granted, it’ll no longer be his name you’ll see attached as director once Bond 25 storms cinemas, but he deserves to have his voice heard like anyone else.

While recently speaking with Deadline, Boyle revealed how he came to his own conclusion of selecting Robert Pattinson after watching High Life:

“It was so bizarre, because I was sitting there thinking: ‘Oh my God, they should get him to be the next Bond.’”

If you think Pattinson’s age of 33 years should disqualify him from the running, Boyle had this to say:

“No, no. He must be in his 30s. How old was Connery? He’s ready now.”

In my view, I think it’s a good idea to cast somebody as Bond while they’re in their thirties. The average actor selected to carry the franchise tends to stay on for at least four films – and those tend to be two or three years apart at minimum. With Craig now in his nifty fifties, he’s up there with Roger Moore as being one of the more mature super spies.

Of course, another talking point is undoubtedly Pattinson being the current Batman, but we’ve seen a variety of actors featuring prominently in multiple franchises in recent years. Personally, I’m backing Henry Cavill until someone else is awarded the highly coveted role, but it’s fair to assume Pattinson’s capable of pulling double duty.

James Bond 25, or whatever it ultimately ends up being called, opens in theaters on April 8th, 2020.
