Get ready to return to Hawkins, Indiana for the third season of Stranger Things, as it’s now just a few weeks away. And to mark the fact that it’s set to premiere soon, Netflix has dropped a brand new trailer tonight which teases, among other things, the arrival of some dangerous new threats from the Upside Down.
Unlike previous runs, which were set around Halloween, season 3 will see our heroes enjoying the summer of 1985. From the footage shown in previous trailers, it looks as if they’ll get at least a bit of time to just be normal children, but we don’t imagine that peace and quiet will last for too long. Indeed, this latest preview teases that dark and sinister creatures are on the way and with promises that this season will be the goriest one yet, you can bet that things are going to get rough for our heroes.
In fact, star Natalia Dyer, who plays Nancy Wheeler, revealed a few months back that just filming the show has become a substantial feat of its own, with season 3’s storylines and themes growing darker along with the characters:
“Obviously I haven’t seen any of it, but it does feel bigger, darker, scarier. It felt like they noticeably bumped it up to a different level this season,” said Dyer.
Judging from this new trailer, she’s certainly right. Almost from the second it begins there’s a frightening, ominous tone to it and it really amps up the intensity as it goes on. All in all, it’s a very tantalizing look at what appears to be another can’t miss run of the hit series and at this point, we simply cannot wait for Stranger Things season 3 to slither onto Netflix on July 4th.
It’ll likely mark the mid-point of the show, too, given that the Duffer Brothers have already told us that it’ll stretch for around four or five seasons before they bring their spooky tale set in Hawkins, Indiana to a close.
