Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is only six months away from hitting theaters, but aside from a few publicity images and a teaser trailer, Disney is keeping details on the film tightly under wraps. This being a Star Wars movie though, of course the Internet has analyzed every single pixel of the released footage in search of some sort of plot revelation. And now, a new fan theory suggests that one of last month’s Vanity Fair behind the scenes photos reveals exactly where the final confrontation between Kylo Ren and Rey takes place.
It’s pretty safe to say that if you’re reading this article, you’ve already spent a decent amount of free time looking at the picture in question, but just to recap: the villainous Kylo Ren, his fiery crimson lightsaber in hand, is facing off with Rey on top of a gray, mechanical base. A fearsome storm brews around them, and it looks like giant waves are crashing over the base around their feet. If this new theory’s to be believed, the duo aren’t fighting on just any regular ol’ futuristic platform at sea, but on top of the Millennium Falcon.
Honestly, I can’t imagine a more fitting setting for the final battle in the last film in the Skywalker Saga. Having first appeared in the original 1977 movie, Han Solo’s ship has become one of the series’ most iconic images. Despite its looks, the hunk of junk really has it where it counts, practically becoming an important character in its own right.
The Falcon also perfectly represents the dichotomy between Kylo Ren and Rey. Kylo, the son of Han Solo, has long turned his back on his heroic lineage, killing his father in The Force Awaken to escape his past. Rey, however, embraced Han’s legendary status, adopting his ship after his death. Rumors are swirling that Episode IX will introduce brand new force powers during Rey and Ren’s fight as well, so if the Millennium Falcon rumor is true, the final battle sounds like it’ll perfectly balance both the old and new.
While we still don’t know much about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, we’re sure Disney will start cranking out more marketing before its release on December 20th, so stay tuned.
