The last few weeks have been a bit of a wild ride for Game of Thrones fans. While the eighth and final season got off to a bit of a slow start – with lots of character development, and a bit of dragon riding thrown in for good measure – the action and tension ramped up during the third episode, as the Night King and his army of White Walkers and wights stormed Winterfell, in a blood-soaked battle that lasted well over 80 minutes.
After plenty of shocking deaths (and one incredibly tense stand-off), things slowed down a bit during last week’s episode, as the survivors in the North dealt with the aftermath of the fight while planning their next move. Still, while “The Last of the Starks” was more carefully paced, a few Game of Thrones devotees did spot one rather peculiar goof. Shortly after the episode aired, some eagle-eyed viewers noticed that a Starbucks coffee cup had been left on set, and was inadvertently captured on camera.
Needless to say, Twitter went wild, with fans flocking to the social media platform to express their confusion as to how the show’s staff could have let it go unnoticed. HBO even responded to their slip-up with a brief statement.
“The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake. Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.”
Fans and critics spent the last couple of days laughing about HBO’s screwup, but it seems the fun has come to an end. As reported by ComicBook.com, the network has now rectified their mistake. As of today, the versions of the episode available for streaming on both HBO Go and HBO Now have been edited, and the misplaced Starbucks cup is nowhere to be seen.
While the continent of Westeros will never be able to truly enjoy the delights of Starbucks’ unique blend of coffee, things are bound to get wild over the next couple of weeks. New episodes of Game of Thrones air Sunday nights at 9 PM ET on HBO, and with only two episodes left, fans won’t have to wait long to see who (if anyone) wins the battle for the Iron Throne.
