Mysterio May Not Be From Another Earth In Spider-Man: Far From Home

The second trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home arrived this morning and dropped a major bombshell that could change the face of the MCU. In one clip that sees Peter Parker introduced to Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio, it's revealed that Quentin Beck is from another world. This is huge and could have numerous consequences and ramifications for the franchise. However, considering the character that made this revelation, fans might want to take it with a pinch of salt. If there’s one thing that’s true about any iteration of Mysterio, it’s that he likes to lie. The master of illusions is generally portrayed as a talented special effects guy, using his light shows and robot drones to masquerade as a powerful supervillain. The FFH version has so far been portrayed as a hero working with S.H.I.E.L.D., but things are surely not as they seem.

It’s long been assumed by fans that the Elementals – the rock, lava and water creatures attacking Europe – are fakes created by Mysterio to make himself look like a hero (think Syndrome’s plan in The Incredibles). The multiverse reveal in the trailer suggests Beck’s claiming the creatures came through the same reality-rip he did. But what if there is no rip and Mysterio’s faking more than we initially thought? For what purpose, though, other than personal glory, it’s hard to say.

An alternative solution is that he is from another Earth but he’s still a fraud. ComicBook.com reminds us that 2012’s Spider-Men comic book arc reveals that the Ultimate Universe’s Mysterio is actually a robot avatar for the Beck from Earth 616 (the main Marvel universe).

Could the upcoming sequel be playing around with a similar idea? All will be revealed when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits cinemas on July 2nd.
