We’re only a few months away from the Japanese premiere of the latest animated Pokémon film, Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution and fans across the globe are eagerly awaiting The Pokémon Company’s plans to commemorate the event.
First off, a special 10,000cp Mewtwo is being released in Pokémon: Let’s Go, for those who purchase advanced tickets to the upcoming animated film. At the moment, the flick is only coming to theaters in Japan, but the reward code can be redeemed on any region game throughout September.
Secondly, fans of Pokémon Go have stumbled upon code that may hint at an armored Mewtwo form appearing in the near future. It’s worth noting that Niantic has yet to confirm an official event related to the upcoming film, as events are usually announced a few days before they begin, but this wouldn’t be the first time a creature was introduced in the mobile ARG to cross-promote another title. Last year, the brand new Meltan appeared in Pokémon Go to spark interest in Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu for the Nintendo Switch.
All of these updates come at the heel of the latest trailer for Mewtwo Strikes Back, which features footage of the psychic Pokemon shrouded in armor. The film serves as a complete CGI remake of Pokémon: The First Movie, which details the secret creation of the Mewtwo and the dangerous trap he sets for Ash and friends.
If you couldn’t already tell, 2019 is shaping up to be a massive year for The Pokémon Company. We’re less than a month away from the theatrical premiere of Detective Pikachu, while Sword & Shield, the next generation of core Pokémon games, are slated for release toward the holiday season. We’re sure The Pokémon Co., Nintendo, and Niantic all have celebratory events on the horizon, too, so be sure to check back in with us over the coming months for all the details.
