When there are A, B, and C-list celebrities who would be happy to have even a two-second cameo in a TV show, producers have to know they’re doing something right. Even if that guest appearance ends in their gruesome death.
Game of Thrones is no stranger to this, having had performer Ed Sheeran singing by a campfire, MLB pitcher Noah Syndergaard serving in Jaime Lannister’s army, and YouTube comedian Steve Love getting axed by the Hound. The second and third of those didn’t cause quite stir as much discussion as Sheeran’s cameo did though, with fans chastising the show for “selling out” just to get a big name entertainer to sing on the series.
The fallout from that cameo didn’t stop the producers from continuing on with the tradition, though, as Silicon Valley‘s Martin Starr and Rob McElhenney of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia fame were Sunday night’s GoT guest stars. Don’t believe us? Here are the screenshots from their fates on the show:
They were barely onscreen before Theon Greyjoy ended their characters’ lives, giving them the ole arrows to the head during his siege of Euron Greyjoy’s ship. While their appearances were extremely short, McElhenney seemed to enjoy his two seconds of fame, posting the following on his Instagram account:
Don’t blink. Such a good sport.
McElhenney’s previous acting credits include appearances on ER, Lost, Fargo and The Mindy Project, while Starr can be see reprising his role of Mr. Harrington, Peter Parker’s science teacher, in this year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Both are enjoyable talents to watch and it was nice seeing them appear on the season 8 premiere of HBO’s hit fantasy series.
But tell us, were you quick enough to catch their cameos in Sunday night’s episode of Game of Thrones? If so, brag about it in the comments section down below!
