Apex Legends Dev Can’t Promise A Nintendo Switch Port

Having recorded a hugely-successful launch and massive player figures since launch back in February, there's no doubting that Apex Legends is here to stay. Respawn Entertainment's battle royale will continue to provide some much-needed competition for the likes of Fortnite, that much is certain, but there's still plenty of room for improvement. The brand's future growth will assuredly come via continued content updates and expanded Battle Passes, but that's just one way for Apex to spread its dominance.

Currently, the world of Kings Canyon is available to play for free on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, but there’s one platform noticeably missing from that list. Nintendo Switch is still without its own version of Apex Legends, and its continued absence certainly doesn’t stem from a lack of interest. Indeed, Switch owners and Apex fans alike have continued to quiz Respawn on a potential port to the Big N’s hybrid console, and while responses have varied, the general answer continues to be in the realm of “we’ll see.”

That trend shows no sign of being bucked, either, as a recent Q&A session conducted by WIRED with Respawn project lead Drew McCoy has yielded similar results. When asked about the possibility of a future Switch version, McCoy responded:

If Switch was coming, we would tell you, and we would blast it across the world. We are hearing all the Switch players who say they want the game. I can’t make any promises right now. We have a lot of things that we’re working on, so stay tuned for anything in the future. But currently we don’t have anything to announce.

In essence, it sounds as if McCoy’s hands are tied on the matter. Even if Respawn is working on a Switch version of Apex Legends, it might simply be the case that the developer isn’t quite ready to confirm or deny the project. Last minute hiccups can happen, and the last thing anyone wants is a Switch announcement, followed by the news that it’s been cancelled.

In related news, Respawn is about ready to reveal another new game this weekend. Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order‘s official worldwide reveal is due to kick off on Saturday, April 13.
