Earlier this week, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd and Chris Hemsworth all guested on Jimmy Kimmel Live! And while the episode didn’t tell us a whole lot about Avengers: Endgame, it at least gave us the opportunity to see Downey crack jokes at the expense of his co-stars.
On Monday’s broadcast, the actor discussed his plans to screen the Avengers: Infinity War sequel on loop during an Easter brunch. Seeing how Endgame’s runtime sits at a hefty 3 hours and 58 seconds, Johansson rightly pointed out that it would need to be a very long brunch, to which Downey responded:
“We can fast forward through the dumb stuff.”
When Johansson asked what he meant by “dumb stuff,” Downey came back with a harsh putdown:
“I don’t know, your character arc?”
Johansson then told Downey that she’ll get him back for that remark, and sure enough, Black Widow might well end up having the last laugh. After all, she’s the only one of the pair to have a confirmed future in the franchise.
Why’s Robert Downey Jr. roasting Scarlett Johansson like that? 😭 pic.twitter.com/pBMYGuwD70

In fact, while Natasha Romanoff’s long-awaited solo debut is expected to begin filming in June, it’s widely assumed that Endgame will serve as Iron Man’s last hurrah. A lot of fans are even worried that the franchise’s first hero is about to meet a tragic end, though at least as many are predicting that Captain America will be the one to make the sacrifice play.
In any case, we still know very little about Black Widow’s arc in this month’s release, though Johansson recently told Empire that she’ll be “f***ing pissed off.” We’ll find out how she puts that anger to use when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th.
