In case it wasn’t obvious enough already, this week’s Avengers: Endgame pre-sales have made it very clear that Marvel’s next release is going to make a lot of money when it arrives in theaters later this month. In fact, according to The Hollywood Reporter, early tracking has the Avengers: Infinity War sequel coming in at anywhere from $200-$250 million domestically on its opening weekend.
Interestingly, as high as these estimations are, they still fall a little short of Infinity War’s $257.6 million debut, which holds the current all-time record for biggest opening weekend of all time. That being said, Infinity War was initially tipped for an open of $185-$225 million, so perhaps we’ll find that Endgame will also exceed these latest forecasts. In fact, back in February, Researcher Exhibitor Relations was significantly more optimistic with their projection, which had Anthony and Joe Russo’s next film debuting at a record-breaking $282 million.
In any case, THR has also relayed word from box office analysts that the film could open in the $750-$800 million range worldwide. Again, we’ve heard even higher estimates, but this would still comfortably exceed the $640.5 million global haul that Infinity War earned in its first weekend. Mind you, this increase is largely attributed to the film’s early release in China, which had to wait an extra two weeks last year for Infinity War to come out.
Overall, however, things bode very well for Avengers: Endgame, which has already managed to beat the 24-hour pre-sales record previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. No doubt Marvel Studios will be doing all they can in these next few weeks to drive these projections up even further, but the real test comes when the film hits theaters on April 26th.
