By now, most DC fans have come to accept that Armie Hammer won’t be taking on the title role in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, but in case the actor hasn’t denied the rumor enough already, the Call Me by Your Name star has shot down the idea several more times in a new video from TMZ.
The footage sees Hammer being approached by a journalist who asks him, “Are you the new Batman, Armie?” In response, the actor offers a blunt “No.” When asked if he can confirm it, Hammer replies, “I can’t.” When the question is posed of whether or not he’s “denying it, for real,” Hammer reaffirms, “Yes!” And lastly, when asked, “How about if I see you with a cape?” Hammer answers, “Then you’ll know I’m lying.”

Though Hammer wouldn’t be the first DCEU star to lie about his involvement in the franchise, recent reports generally suggest that the actor is telling the truth. One increasingly prevalent rumor, for instance, is that Warner Bros. is looking for someone in their late-20s to play the Caped Crusader. And while the claim remains officially unconfirmed, even ex-Batman Ben Affleck mentioned earlier this month that Reeves’ film will feature a Bruce Wayne who’s relatively new to the superhero game.
But if Hammer isn’t our next Dark Knight, we’re still not particularly close to finding out who it will be. For what it’s worth, Geeks WorldWide last week released a wish list of stars being eyed for the part, which included such familiar figures as Kick-Ass actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson and X-Men series regular Nicholas Hoult. But regardless of who Warner ends up going with, it’s still a long wait before we can see them in action when The Batman hits theaters on June 25th, 2021.
