David Tennant Confirms Kilgrave Won’t Return For Jessica Jones Season 3

Jessica Jones is the last of the Marvel-Netflix shows still standing but once season 3 of the super-powered super-sleuth's series arrives, that'll be it for the Defendersverse. There's a lot that fans might want to see in the third and final run so as to wrap up the show on a high and right at the top of the list would have to be one last return for Jessica's mind-controlling nemesis Kilgrave. However, David Tennant has sadly confirmed that he won't be back.

The Scottish star spoke to EW recently and revealed that he’s not set to appear in season 3. In case you think this is the actor telling a white lie to hide a surprise cameo, EW confirms that “other sources” have also proved his claim to be accurate. If he’s played Kilrave for the final time, then, is Tennant bitter that Jessica Jones has come to a premature end? Apparently not, as he explained that he prefers to focus on the “glass half full” way of looking at the situation.

“I don’t really regard it as a cancellation so much as something having the life that it should have. Three seasons of that story is great. Rather than thinking of it as something that was canceled, I think of it as something that had three seasons that will live in the memory.”

Kilgrave memorably had his neck snapped by Jessica in the season 1 finale but Tennant got to return in the form of a hallucination in an episode of season 2. We thought he might show up in season 3 as well, as he’d previously remained coy on the topic and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg seemed to be heavily teasing a Kilgrave comeback on Twitter. But apparently, it’s not to be.

Jessica Jones season 3 will further explore the rift between Jess and her adoptive sister Trish now that the latter has developed superpowers. We don’t know who the big bad is nor when it’s set to land on Netflix, but all the signs are pointing to it dropping in the first half of 2019. As always, watch this space for more.
