Remember when Battle Royale was a horror-fuelled Japanese film directed by Kinji Fukasaku? We do, but now, it’s the video game genre that people simply can’t get enough of – and understandably so.
Case in point: Respawn’s fresh-faced Apex Legends currently boasts a whopping 50 million players and counting. That’s a wildly impressive install base, and with the game’s first balancing patch having gone live a few days ago – nerfing the Wingman and the Peacekeeper in the process – we’re starting to get some hints of what the future may hold for Apex Legends.
Over on Twitter, for instance, eagle-eyed fans have been digging into the code to see what they can find and they’ve now revealed two big-name additions to the arsenal. Specifically, wall-running and super-jumping. Of course, both of these abilities were found in the Titanfall series and as such, it’s entirely possible that the files in question are just leftovers from the third installment in that franchise – since Apex originally started out as Titanfall 3.
If you ask us though, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see wall-running and super-jumping added into the game at some point. After all, Apex Legends is a lot more focused on movement than other battle royale titles and being able to run along walls and jump a bit higher would set it even further apart from its peers, most of which offer only limited movement options.
In any case, it’s clear that there’s a lot of additional content in development for the game and with Season 1 said to be kicking off this week, it won’t be too much longer now before we learn of all – or at least some of – the goodies that Respawn has coming down the pipeline for Apex Legends.
