The reveal of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio is one of the most remarkable moments in the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, and now a new piece of promo art offers an even better look at the character’s costume.
The image below comes from Marvel News India, who apparently got their hands on a leaked piece of promotional material for the Spider-Man sequel. Clad in green and gold armor, a purple cape and yes, the infamous “Fishbowl Head,” it looks like Marvel ripped Mysterio, aka Quentin Beck, straight from the cover of a comic book.
In the film’s trailer, Peter Parker’s classmates describe Mysterio as “like Iron Man and Thor rolled all into one,” a pretty accurate description for one of Spidey’s most dynamic looking supervillains. It’s great to see that Marvel hasn’t shied away from bringing the inherent silliness of a fishbowl-style helmet to the big screen, either. What’s its purpose, though? Did he make this suit himself, or is it a piece of alien tech? Who knows, but it looks absolutely awesome.
Let’s not forget though, Beck isn’t the only character showing off flashy new duds in Far From Home. Peter Parker is rumored to debut not one, not two, but three new Spidey-suits in the sequel. We know that one of the new outfits is designed to help him fight the Elementals, but will it also come in handy against Mysterio? Time will tell.
With the release of the next Spider-Man movie only a few months away, there’s still a lot of info we don’t know about the villain. Sure, it looks like Beck saves Peter from an Elemental, but over fifty years of comic book history suggests his motivations are more sinister. Either way, all should be revealed when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5th.
