The upcoming adaptation of Good Omens should be a real treat. Based on the 1990 collaborative novel by the dearly missed Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, it focuses on the birth of the son of Satan and the arrival of the apocalypse, featuring the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, angels and demons trying to prevent the end of the world and a really bad case of mistaken identity that results from the Antichrist being switched for a normal baby.
With Neil Gaiman producing and also taking on the showrunner role, the project should be a stylish and accurate representation of what he and Pratchett put forth in their well-regarded fantasy novel. On top of that, they’ve also assembled an incredibly talented cast, including Michael Sheen and David Tennant as the angel and demon odd couple, Jon Hamm, Nick Offerman, Miranda Richardson, Frances McDormand (who voices God) and, believe it or not, Benedict Cumberbatch as the Prince of Darkness himself, Satan.
It’s an enviable line-up of actors and actresses and now we have another look at most of them in their roles thanks to this wacky new trailer which teases us with what appears to be one of 2019’s most entertaining and interesting shows. It focuses mostly on establishing the buddy comedy aspect between Sheen and Tennant, but there’s a lot going on here and while it’s still a bit too early to say how closely it’ll stick to the source material, Amazon Prime’s latest offering is certainly shaping up to be pretty promising.
After years spent lingering on the brink of an adaptation, a Good Omens TV show is finally headed to our screens, and we couldn’t be more excited. Look for it to debut via Amazon Prime on May 31st, while those in the UK can expect the apocalyptic series to air on the BBC.
