Fortnite Season 8 is off to a smashing start so far, with all the many changes and new additions going down pretty well with the fanbase. But now that the launch is out of the way – and was pretty successful, all things considered – it’s time for the updates to begin and Epic will be rolling out the first one tomorrow morning.
Taking to Twitter earlier today, the developer announced that there will be some downtime for Fortnite starting on March 6th at 4am EST. It’s unknown how long it’ll last, but don’t expect to be able to hop into a match while the update’s being made. That being said, these things are usually pretty quick and we don’t imagine that the downtime will be substantial. Especially since it’s not the full season update.
As for what may arrive in the 8.01 patch, well, we don’t know exactly what it’ll bring just yet, but we can confirm that the Buried Treasure item will be added to Fortnite, allowing you to go on the hunt for hidden goodies. How exactly that’ll work, we can’t say, but we’re certainly excited to find out.
Elsewhere, we’ll also be getting a number of audio improvements, which are as follows:
- Improvement to the standard AR sound so that it’s not overbearing on the shooter.
- Tightened up the sound, so it’s more of a BLaaam versus a BLAAAM.
- Building Piece destroy sound is louder when instigated by enemies.
- Helps mitigate scenarios where “that guy Hand Cannon’d a wall behind me and I didn’t hear it”.
- Footstep audio blends in the above/below layers, rather than abruptly switching between them.
- Prevents jarring footstep transitions between floors directly above or below. Should clear up some confusion.
- Footstep occlusion traces from the heads of enemies when they’re above or below.
- This helps mitigate scenarios where an enemy has line-of-sight on you but their footsteps still sound muffled/occluded.
- Reduce volume of the S8 palm tree umbrella.
- This only affects the umbrella open/close layers. Don’t worry, the steel drum riff volume is preserved.
All that aside, we imagine there’ll be a few other interesting things tucked away in this new update as well, but until Epic releases it early tomorrow morning, all we can do is wait and see what else they’ve got planned for us with Fortnite Season 8.
In the meantime, though, tell us, are you enjoying the new content so far? As always, you can sound off in the usual place down below.
