A recent batch of set photos from the upcoming Birds of Prey offered an early glimpse of what looks to be the headquarters of Janus Cosmetics, the company run by Ewan McGregor’s character Black Mask, but as you may recall, Roman Sionis’ corporation was already teased as far back as 2017, in the opening minutes of Justice League.
As Batman tracks down a Parademon through Gotham City, the Janus Corp logo can be seen in bright lights on a building in the background. It’s not a particularly revelatory moment, but with the DCEU currently cutting down on the interconnectivity of its films, it’s nice to see that this little Easter egg is finding fresh relevance.
Though Ewan McGregor showed up in a pair of brief shots in the first Birds of Prey teaser, the actor has yet to make an appearance in the generous array of set material that’s emerged in the past month, let alone show off his mask. But if you’d care for fresh footage of his new foe Harley Quinn, then look no further than this recently surfaced set video, in which Margot Robbie’s character looks on as a truck crashes through a set of gates and leaves an explosion in its wake.
Photos taken from another angle indicate that the gates have the Janus logo on the front, suggesting that Harley and her friends may be launching an assault on Black Mask’s HQ. Going by what we’ve heard so far, Harleen Quinzel will be teaming up with Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to come to the aid of the young Cassandra Cain, who’s somehow drawn the unwelcome attention of the villainous Roman.
We’ll find out how the team fares against one of Gotham’s greatest criminal masterminds when Birds of Prey hits theaters on February 7th, 2020, but in the meantime, here’s hoping McGregor will show off his new face in a set pic or two.
